Naomi's Juice Bases

These juices constitute the base for many of my recipes. In attempting to standardize and simplify my juicing recipes, I've decided to create a few base juices which can then be used to blend together with other fruits and vegetables to create an enormous and relatively consistent variety of juices. This principle is largely used in commercial kitchens both in the raw and non raw juicing world, and is helpful to the home juicer.

I use the assumption that you will make each type of produce juice separately in order to measure out the proper amounts of juice for the recipe. I juice the produce called for in the recipe, using the Juice Yields guidelines, measure out what I need, and just drink whatever is extra from a really productive run of juicing, when starting out mixing my bases.

These juice bases make enough for 1 person for 2 days worth of juice bases, and the juices are good enough to drink on their own - even the green juices! It is safe and effective to store freshly made juices for 2 days in the fridge (I wouldn't go beyond that for nutrient content and flavor). As always, your quality of flavor and quantity of volume may vary depending on your produce and method of juicing.

Fresh Juice Base
This juice got its name after my seven year old declared this to taste "like a glass of fresh."  Very mild and sweet, and tasting like a fresh summer breeze, this juice can stand alone or be used as a base in either sweet or savory juice combinations. This makes enough for 2 days worth of Fresh Juice Base. See my Juice Yields page to estimate how much produce you'll need for this base. Heartier leafy vegetables such as Kale are not appropriate for this Base.
7  c Spinach Juice
1 c Parsley Juice
2 large Cucumber, cut up, or 4 c Cucumber juice

In blender, blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour into large white dinner napkin and strain. Alternately run all ingredients through juicer (see Juice Yields page for produce equivalents).
Yield: About 3 quarts.

Basic Savory Base
My seven year old declared that this base "tastes  like soup" - and he's right. It tastes very much like bouillon and will provide much needed sodium to your daily intake. This juice can stand alone or be used as a base in savory juice combinations. This makes enough for 2 days worth of Savory Juice Base. See my Juice Yields page to estimate how much produce you'll need. Because this has tomato in it, count half the volume of this toward Green Juices and half toward Colored Juices.
3  c Celery Juice
4 c Tomato Juice
1 c Leafy Green Juice (Lettuce Kale, Spinach, etc)

In blender, blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour into large white dinner napkin and strain. Alternately run all ingredients through juicer (see Juice Yields page for produce equivalents) - you may need to add up to 1/2 c water to the base.
Yield: About 2 quarts.

Basic Sweet Base
This is my kids' favorite basic juice and is packed with vitamins C and A. Sweeeeeeeet, like sugar, this juice can stand alone or be used as a base in sweet  juice combinations. This makes enough for 2 days worth of Sweet Juice Base. See my Juice Yields page to estimate how much produce you'll need.

2  c Soft Fruit (Pear, Peach, Berry, Banana) Juice - we avoid banana unless in the mood for it
4 c Carrot Juice
3 c Green Apple Juice

In blender, blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour into large white dinner napkin and strain. Alternately run all ingredients through juicer (see Juice Yields page for produce equivalents) - you may need to add up to 1/2 c water to the base.
Yield: About 2 quarts.
